Charleston area points of interest

Charleston is one of the oldest cities in America.  This gracious Southern city was founded over 340 years ago and if you are interested in history, revolutionary war, civil war or otherwise, the arts, Spoleto Festival, shopping 'til you drop, great food and drink, romantic getaways, boating, fishing or whatever, Charleston is a great place for your vacation.

Charleston and its surrounding cities, towns and islands will soon become your favorite area to explore.  The choices of what you could do during your vacation would take pages to fill.  We will offer some of the highlights we have discovered.
  • Revolutionary and Civil War battles raged all around Charleston.  Visit Fort Moultrie, Fort Sumter, the CSS Hunley (the first submarine) and all the surrounding areas
  • Colonial-era Charleston is remarkable for its architecture.  A great place to spend time in a carriage or on foot
  • Great shopping in Charleston is on King Street.  Also walk through the Old Market area and then refresh at one of the many restaurants.  They offer a remarkable variety of cuisines from which to choose
  • There are still "Plantations" in the Charleston area.  Middleton Place, Drayton Hall, Boone Hall and the Charleston Tea Plantation allow you to step back in time
  • Water activities are a part of every low-country resident's life.  Kayaking, boating, and fishing are easy to schedule
  • We enjoy spending time in the Charleston Aquarium--a great place to take the kids
  • Spoleto Arts and Music Festival is a 20 year tradition celebrated in Charleston
  • One of Brian's favorite things to do is visit the restaurants located in Mt. Pleasant off Shem Creek.  Red's, Water's Edge, Vickery's are great places to eat,  and watch people.  The fishing and shrimping boats dock here. A fun place to take your pet, too!
  • Patriot's Point has a golf course, marina, ballpark and walking trails, but the main attraction has to be the wonderful collection of naval vessels.  The USS Yorktown as well as numerous other ships are docked and there is also the very impressive Congressional Medal of Honor Museum on the Yorktown
  • The Barrier Islands around Charleston offer great accomodations, beaches, golf, tennis, biking and relaxing.  I can't think of a better place to spend your time than on the beach in Isle of Palms or Sullivan's Island or by the pools in Wild Dunes getting some sun.
